The Friday Five 21/04/17

The Friday Papers  –

There is a huge amount of debate regarding the best way to ‘Stretch’. I have looked into a few of these varied methods while researching for the MartialBody programs. Static stretching and static holds have a good base of research behind them. For example:

““After stretching, passive torques were significantly reduced at >50% of range of motion (ROM). Shear modulus at a given fascicle length was significantly reduced at >80% of the change in fascicle length during passive dorsiflexion.””

Inspired words -

“We suffer more in imagination that we do in reality.”

Foody Friday -

Vitamin D. More of a hormone that a vitamin the further north of the equator you get, the more you probably need.

“If there's only one supplement you're taking for your health and your diet is decent, it should probably be Vitamin D. I highly recommend taking Vitamin D instead of a multivitamin most of the time. “

From the world of MA’s – A couple of Epic Weeks of Grappling ahead!

Another exciting couple of weeks in the world of grappling with some amazing matches at the ADCC trials. Speedy recovery to professor Braulio Estima who tore his Hamstring very badly in warm up and was unable to compete. Also, at the Abu Dhabi Worlds we are seeing some excellent reffing and rules in place. Refs are punishing competitors for stalling and this is making the action very exciting. Finals are tomorrow so be sure to tune in on flograppling or ADsports.

To check out …

I have been a long time fan of Rafe Kelley and his Evolve, Move, Play concept. Combining movement skills with martial arts and Parkour the whole system looks developmentally very useful but also a hell of a lot of fun! Especially their Roughhousing! Check him out at :

“It was rarely the techniques that impressed me when I met the Elite Martial Artists of various styles. It wasn't what they did ... it was how they did it! It was they 'felt' ... their highly developed  power, accuracy, subtly. When I realised this, I knew my training had to be focused on those things, not just techniques. "
