What is the MartialBody system?

It is probably worth starting with what this system isn't, it isn't a martial art and is not concerned with teaching people how to fight or defend themselves. Instead, MartialBody should be viewed as a supplementary system of body and mind training that is focused on providing martial artists, combat sports athletes and combative practitioners with tools to help them express their art in the optimum way. It is as relevant to the Traditional Karate-Ka as it is to the Brazilian Jiujitsu Competitor.

MartialBody is focused on building a set of attributes that are found in the top performers across the myriad styles of Martial Arts. It contains methods from a wide variety of sources. From the traditional body, breath and mind training methods of Japan and China, to the modern sports sciences, strength and conditioning, manual therapies and meditation traditions. Far from being a static system, MartialBody continues to evolve as new research and techniques become available. The system is the culmination of 6 years of constant refinement, 30 years of martial arts, national level sports coaching and therapeutic practice.

We aim to illicit real change in the athlete and all measures towards that goal have been carefully considered and tested.

How is the MartialBody method organised?

MartialBody is separated into 6 modules, known as ‘bodies’. Each of these modules train a primary attribute that is useful to the martial artist or combat sports athlete. Perhaps the biggest problem in the Martial arts today is ‘stagnation’ of the training methodologies. MartialBody is not organised to be strict in its adherence but instead fosters a freedom of assessment on an individual basis. Adjustment of the coaching methods so that the students can obtain maximum results for their given goals are at the heart of the system.

The 6 modules of the martial body are; the ability to use our mass, the trained stability, the co-ordination and connection of our tissues, the elastic and explosive qualities, development of movement complexity and freedom of mind. Each of these attributes are drawing upon a wide variety of sources to achieve their goal.

Everything Coach has experienced, trained, and researched has been whittled down, removing the traditional layers and hurdles in order to zoom in on the goal of creating the complete MartialBody composed of these 6 qualities.

Practitioner centric training

At the very centre of this system is the the idea of the individual practitioners development coming first above all else. We put the athlete, practitioner, or student at the heart of the training on an individual level and constantly adjust how we coach and what methods we utilize to maximise the efficiency of the training for the individual student. This is very important to us, outside of the fundamental methods, it is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Effective coaching lies at the heart of what we do and as new research and techniques become available and proven, the system of achieving the MartialBody will grow and adapt. This is in stark contrast to the rigid traditions found within most martial arts; fluidity in the quest for the goal is the key.

Testimonials

  • “Firstly, this stuff is WAY harder to do than it looks! But the payoffs are big. I have trained in the Heavy & Stable body modules and could immediately see and feel why they are relevant to me as an MMA athlete. My wrestling and take down defence has shot up and my hands are heavier than ever!”
  • "Coach always seemed to make the method specific to the individual he was coaching, even in the crowded room which was so refreshing. Coming from a Wing Chun Background, my requirement is different to that of the BJJ guys in attendance and this was skillfully handled meaning that every exercise was still extremely relevant to me. Great system, awesome coach.”
  • "Training with Coach in his BJJ classes I was always struck with his structure and weight. Now I know why! In one session I got a taste of how he is able to exert so much pressure for his size. HeavyBody work is a clear advantage for anyone into grappling, for throw defense and top pressure it really makes a difference. Definitely worth a look a this no nonsense work.”
  • "One month into some specific exercises from MartialBody and my niggling shoulder pains are gone. Simply exercisese that produce amazing results, Coach Chris specified a routine for me to follow, explained the science behind the methods and then it was down to me to train it. What a difference 30 days made, I literally feel like a different person, thank you coach.”
